Shell Cordovan

Rocado has been operating since 1982 in Tuscany, Italy. They are a famous tannery known for their Shell Cordovan, being finished by hand to achieve unique, artistic finishes. With their Museum and Marbled range, no two shells are the same. It's a dense leather, allowing it to develop a strong glossy shine and beautiful patina.

Shell Cordovan is a rare leather made from the buttocks of horses. It is not technically leather, rather a special layer of tissue underneath the skin called the cordovan, which is thickest on the rump. It requires a skilled artisan to reveal this layer without damaging it, as well as a further six month for the tanning process.
